Health
Care delivered where the mainland cannot easily reach
Mfangano Island sits on Lake Victoria with about 30,000 people and roughly 10,000 families. About a quarter can afford basic healthcare. Cases of hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, rheumatic fever, sickle cell, and other chronic illness are rising.
We raise support from well-wishers to walk with the vulnerable. Diagnosis and treatment happen at Ministry of Health facilities; we deliver medication to enrolled participants monthly. Right now we support 72 beneficiaries โ 67 adults and 5 children. Average monthly cost is about $35 per person.
- Monthly medication delivery for enrolled families
- Home visits with BP and glucose checks by CHPs and public health officers
- Medical camps for diabetes and hypertension screening
- A children's kitty for NHIF and emergency transport when funds allow
- Local donors may give drugs as per need โ tell us via the reach-out form
